The brush of fate…

A work in progress if you may… will be continued as I write more of it… Part 1

He actually spotted that man running towards him from a fair distance. It looked a little peculiar but he had nothing to complain about.

A perfectly sunny day had blessed him with a spring in his step and a chirpy mood. Having taken the day off at totally a few days ago, for apparently no obvious reasons, all he could do was enjoy the lovely day and go out for lunch. Weirdly, and very unlike himself, he was smartly dressed for the occasion, for an occasion it was indeed. The only flaw in the plan was, he was unaware of it.

As he walked along with a lot of other pedestrians through the town centre, he noticed the man rushing towards him. He tried to move out of the way but was a bit late. As the guy brushed past of him he rubbed his shoulder, more out of reaction than pain. He looked back as the ‘running man’ never looked back and disappeared out of the side as he turned a corner.

A slow smile suddenly replaced his reaction as he thought of the reasons that could make that guy rush. Something romantic he thought perhaps! Maybe he had to buy a gift for his sweet heart, or perhaps she was waiting for him in some cute little corner of some beautiful little family run cafe. He actually smirked at himself for thinking so. He really did not have any thing to complain, and hence even a slight inconvenience on his way to lunch was giving him a slight pleasure.

As he focussed on different so called merry reasons for the guy rushing past, he walked on.

As I brushed past him I sneakily passed IT onto his body.

I hope he does not notice! I thought!

The poor lad had no idea what he had gotten into. Yet, he was destined to be one of us. A bit of a young Luke Skywalker if you will. Possessor of qualities far beyond his knowledge, that young man had been blessed with a twist in his destiny the day we had discovered him.

We had been watching him for quite some time now. He had shown no signs of being anything less, or more, than being a normal human. Day in and day out he carried on regular actions.

Just perfect… and yet so typical!’

His human actions were alas, a bit too perfect. He thought of himself as a goody-two-shoes character. A person who takes his steps with care so he does not get into any trouble. A regular guy, who had luckily escaped troubles all his life. If only he knew what was to come.

As I entered the house and took off my jacket, I noticed the sweet aroma from the kitchen. As I made my way towards it I heard her pace towards me. Wiping her hands on her apron she looked at me and smiled, and looked around, as if missing something!

You did not bring him with you? She inquired!

He will bring himself to us, honey! Don’t you worry!

I smiled at her, and she smiled back, but deep inside we were both scared and apprehensive of the things to come.

Let me help you with that! I offered. We may have company at dinner!

Sooner than we hoped, he was all but too aware of what he had gained in that little ‘brush of fate’. The passive powers within him suddenly rose and made him aware of what had been given to him without asking. He looked annoyed. This was amazing. His very reaction of annoyance meant that he had grasped a lot more than we thought he would. At least without us telling him anything!

As both me and her felt the energy drain from our bodies, we smiled at each other. We had a hearty dinner and after many years, went to bed and slept like babies. Our experiment had been a success. He had not appeared for dinner but it did not matter any more.

Our work was done and we could at last breath a sigh of relief from what we had gone through for the last few years. All that remained was to meet him, confront him, and bless him with the knowledge of what we had given him. After all, with great power comes great responsibility!
